69 Weeks
Daniel 9:24-25 explains the timeline starting with 69 Weeks
Two parts prior to the Church Age
First Part
One week is equal to 7 years – therefore seventy ‘sevens’ = 490 years.
This first part is the first 7 weeks which is 49 years.
Gabriel said the prophetic clock would start at the time that a decree was issued to rebuild Jerusalem (This decree is WITH the walls).
The command to “restore and rebuild Jerusalem” was given by King Artaxerxes of Persia under Nehemiah and Ezra. (Nehemiah 2:1-8 & Ezra 7:21-28)
This starts approx. around 450 BC and ends around 401 BC when Jerusalem is finished but with a lot of trouble. (Daniel 9:25)
This was the beginning of the 69 weeks!

Second Part
The sixty-two ‘sevens’ left = 434 years.
These two parts equal = 483 years
450 BC – 49 years = 401 BC (Approximately when the last book of the Old Testament, Malachi, was written, when Jerusalem was rebuilt and the beginning of the second part)
There was approximately 400 years of silence. Malachi 2:17 – 4:6 - may detail why there was silence.
401 BC – 434 years = 33 AD (which starts the Church Age)
Daniel 9:26-27 explains the timeline ending of the 69 Weeks
These years have already PASSED!
** Daniel 9:24 - Seventy ‘sevens’ (total are 490 years) are decreed for your people and your holy city (Jerusalem) to finish (or restrain) transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place (or the most Holy One).
** Nehemiah 2:1-8 – In the month of Nisan (March/April) in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes (which is around 444 BC – he reigned between 465 – 424 BC)
** Approximate on the year 450 BC, also including when the last book of Malachi was written, number of years in silence and therefore the year 33 AD.
The Church Age
The period of time that the “Church” is on the earth.
Started - 50 days after Jesus was raised from the dead on the Jewish Holy Day called Pentecost (The Feast of Weeks). (Acts 2:1-2)
Ends – when the Church is raptured.
Daniel 9:26 continues with a prediction that, after the Messiah is killed, “the people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.” Many believe that this was fulfilled with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The “ruler who will come” is a reference to the Antichrist, who, it seems, may have some connection with Rome, since it was the Romans who destroyed Jerusalem.
We have no idea how long this period will last!
** When I say “Church” I mean that by the followers of Jesus Christ – not a building.
70th Week
Also known as the Tribulation Period
The rapture begins this last set of 7 years.
Soon after, the tribulation period will begin. It will begin by the signing or enforcing of a treaty between Israel and the antichrist.
However, 3.5 years later the antichrist will set up an abomination that causes desolation and will break the covenant with Israel – this marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
Matthew 24:15 echoes Daniel 9:27
